Jennifer Vanilla + HOME BODY + NUEX
9pm - $12 - All Ages
Jennifer Vanilla is the entrepreneurial fantasy vessel LARPed into reality by Becca Kauffman, a New York City performance artist and long standing member of the musical group, Ava Luna. Her commercial-inspired vocalizations, paired with reconstructions (or "jv edits") of 90's house tracks, draw comparisons to Laurie Anderson, Will Powers, and Ann Steel, and provide the foundation for her comedic, theatrical live performances. JV has toured coast to coast and performed alongside Yaeji, Carrie Brownstein (Sleater Kinney), Cindy Wilson (The B-52's), Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto), YACHT, Dynasty Handbag, Mr. Twin Sister, and Sateen at venues such as MoMA PS1, Museum of Modern Art, Revolve Gallery, Zebulon, and Bowery Ballroom. Her album This is Jennifer was Rough Trade's Cassette of the Month in April 2018. Her public access show, The Jennifer Vanilla Hour, airs monthly on Queens Public Television.
Fever-pop duo Home Body ignores convention with their vivid blend of electronic, new wave, and experimental pop music, performed from the gut with wild abandon and art-school-cool theatricality. Balancing textured layers of juicy synthesizers, gritty beats, and tectonic bass with spirited, stormy vocals, synthesist Eric Hnatow and vocalist Haley Morgan create a visceral sonic landscape that feels equal parts cosmic, fleshy and electric. Emerging from the vibrant Western Mass music scene, Home Body plays with form and improvisation while retaining a dreamy pop sensibility and demanding presence. Live, the duo punctuates their sound with dance and DIY manual light manipulation, reaching beyond their performance to create a high-vibration spectacle that is buzzing with soul, shadow, and depth.
Camille, a budding singer songwriter from DC, and Teddy, a well-traveled and seasoned musician, met serendipitously one day at a local eatery where they ended up chatting for hours about their musical pasts, present and future over lunch. Weekly phone conversations and long threads of text messaging eventually culminated into the two of them drinking mint juleps in Camille's backyard, romancing over shared musical influences and imagining futures of sublime success. Out of the clouds and out of the blue, it was there that something was born between the two. Something NUEX.
